The  group is involved in various  theoretical and training/laboratory courses of the Undergraduate Studies program of the Department of Pharmacy, such as Informatics, Biochemistry, General & Analytical Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry etc. Information on the topics covered in these Courses are provided  in the next pages along with the corresponding educational material ( Notes). Information about the Diploma Thesis topics  or the research training activities are given below. Information about the research activities of the group can be found in the “Research”  section of this site.

Additionally, the group is also involved in the educational and research training activities of three Post-Graduate Studies programs of the University of Patras. These are the:
Post-Graduate Studies Program of the Department of Pharmacy
“Medicinal Chemistry” Post-Graduate Studies Program of the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacy
“Informatics of Life Sciences” Post-Graduate Studies Program of the Departments of Biology, Computer Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy.

The group can host Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology undergraduate students who want to get involved in research training activities in the frame of their Diploma Thesis.

Additionally, graduate students with a degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology or Medicine graduate students can also be hosted in our lab for getting a Master or a Ph.D. degree.

Undergraduate project topics. Students are introduced and trained in the following:

  • Protein expression, isolation, labeling (in 15N, 13C & 2H nuclei) for NMR studies and biophysical characterization
  • Analysis/assignment of homonuclear (1H-1H) or heteronuclear1H-15N/13C) 2D/3D NMR spectra of peptides and proteins
  • Structure determination of peptides and proteins using NMR structural information Biomolecular simulations and structural bioinformatics, such as homology modeling, docking simulations, virtual screening of bioactive compounds, analysis of protein sequences, structures, etc.
Postgraduate research training areas. During their Research Training stage students will use molecular biology techniques for protein production along with computational tools and NMR Spectroscopy to study protein and biomolecular complexes architecture, dynamics and interactions,  in the following research areas:
  • Conformational dynamics and interaction of E3 Ubiquitin ligases and related molecules in the Protein Ubiquitination Pathway, using Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy (i.e Arkadia E3 ligase, a RING finger protein).
  • Structural analysis of Zn-Metalloproteases’ catalytic sites and enzymes-substrate interactions applying Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy and computational tools (i.e. Anthrax Lethal Factor, Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme, etc.).
  • Conformational dynamics through NMR and/or Biomolecular simulations of various subunits of Cys-loop receptors (CLRs), such as Acetylcholine Receptor and prokaryotic analogues and protein-ligand studies.
  • Structural characterization and dynamics of heme proteins.
